Welcome.
My name is Steve and I’m just a middle-aged free-thinking atheist curmudgeon looking for a place to maintain my own diary, of sorts. The title of my blog is a shortened version of “A is for Atheist”, because first and foremost I am a die-hard atheist. An unbeliever, heretic, pagan, infidel, apostate or whatever other term you choose to apply. I am a firm believer in science and the evidence-driven methods of science. I am not so bold as to believe that science in an of itself has the answers for everything, but I absolutely reject the notion that that which science cannot explain must be attributed to some sky-god from ancient mythology. (Let’s face it, the monotheistic sky-God of Christianity, Judaism and Islam are every bit as mythological as those of countless other long-dead theism’s.)
As this is my first foray into the world of blogging, I’m still trying to get a handle on this technology. If things seem a bit disorganized, well, please forgive me (isn’t that is religious concept – maybe I should say excuse instead) as I’m new to this stuff. (My day job is an IT storage administrator – enterprise technology stuff – so you’d think blogging technology would be easy for me!) I’ve created it primarily as a place where I can comment about those things I find interesting as well as those things that really annoy me in the world at large. For a long time I’ve been stealthily hanging out reading the blogs of other godless heathens. To date I’ve been too shy to post my own comments on others blogs, so I’ll keep to myself here, at least for a while. Perhaps someday some anonymous individual will take a wrong turn on the Internet highway and, finding themselves here, will extend a virtual handshake and welcome me as a member of the wonderful free-thinking community. Until then … I’ll borrow a quote from Thomas Jefferson:
I am of a sect by myself, as far as I know.
My singular inspiration for this blog is Kafirgirl. Her blog is a wonderfully ribald read of the Qur’an, and I laugh myself to pieces reading her commentary on that fine work of Islamic bullshit. Kafirgirl is engagingly funny, in part, because she writes in much the same way that I think, and frequently speak. I’m still tossing around what I actually want this blog to become, but I’ve given seriously thought to borrowing her idea and doing my own read/commentary on the Bible. Once I get the hang of the blog technology I’ll begin posting stuff and we’ll see where it all goes from there. In the meantime, if you happened upon this site – welcome, and may the Flying Spaghetti Monster touch and bless you with his noodly appendage!

Consider this a virtual handshake. Thanks for all the kind words. And, seriously, you were waaay too king.
I talk the way I write, too, and I betcha the two of us could make a sail blush. I hope you’ll come back and comment on my blog. It’s always great to get input from people who know what they’re talking about. (IE not the people who believe that skyman clangs pots together to make thunder.)
Welcome to the blogosphere.
