The Norwegion Centre for Geobiology research team recently discovered a new deep water hydrothermal vent in the North Atlantic at the highest latitude yet known. The dedication and persistence of this team was remarkable and should be acknowledged. Read about it – these fine people are doing exciting work in deep water exploration.
The best was a comment from Rolf Birger, who headed the discovery team. He was excited about the discovery, as one would imagine, but apparently was more interested in the impact of the discovery on his graduate students.
“We took a ship, in 2008, and we have found something that no one on earth has ever seen!
Our discovery was especially visual, but these possibilities exist in every science.”
Absolutely wonderful concern for his grad students, and a magnificent discovery. Hats off to them! The age of exploration is far from over …
